The series of Power Macintosh G3 (commonly known as "Blue and White G3", or sometimes just the "B & W G3" to distinguish it from the original Power Macintosh G3) was a series of personal computers designed, manufactured and sold by Apple Computer Inc., as part was abandoned in favor of the line Power Mac G4 in August 1999.
The blue G3 white and used a modified version of the memory / PCI controller, the Motorola MPC106 (codenamed "Grackle"); MPC106 used v4. The I / O "Heathrow" had been replaced by "Paddington" (addition of 100 Mbit Ethernet and power saving features), the audio chip "Screamer" (in the Beige G3 "Personality Card") had been replaced by "Burgundy" and other drivers for FireWire (Texas Instruments PCI-Lynx) USB, etc. were added.

The logic board had four PCI slots: three 64-bit 33MHz slots, and a 32-bit 66MHz dedicated slot for the graphics card, an ATI Rage 128 with 16MB of SGRAM. Four RAM slots PC100 SDRAM 100MHz modules accepted, allowing installation of up to 1GB of RAM using 256 MB DIMMs. The onboard ATA to Ultra ATA/33 was updated (in fact, an extra UDMA-33 controller this, see above), SCSI, but was no longer present, having been replaced by two FireWire ports, a new standard (IEEE1394) operates at 400Mbit / s (50MB / s) faster on the theory that even the ATA/33 (33MB / s) hard disk controller. The serial ports are gone, too, have given way to two USB 1.1 ports (12 Mbit / s) as applied and on the iMac. The ADB port remained, like the option of an internal modem. They had also disappeared internal hard drive. 100BASE-TX Ethernet was now usual, and the audio is transferred back to the logic board. A Zip drive remains an option, and some configuration includes a DVD-ROM and a daughter card DVD-Video decoder to the graphics card that will allow hardware-assisted DVD video playback.
The blue and white Power Macintosh G3 was the first Mac energy with the "New World Architecture", which contained only a small (approximately 1MB) boot ROM. When you boot the Mac OS toolbox Mac OS and other patches installed ROM loaded into RAM (the former however Beige G3 was the first Mac with this ROM in RAM memory capacity). Initially, many buyers opted to buy as "Platinum" G3 in place in order to maintain compatibility with existing peripherals.
The blue and white box design G3 was widely praised at the time of being easy to open and work. There was a door on the side that depended for throwing a bolt at the top. None of the components necessary to be removed or disconnected to open the case, and indeed could be done with the computer running. The logic board was placed on the door, providing easy access to all components. The hard drive (s) were mounted in a bracket with a screw placed in the floor of the box. There was not room for four internal hard drives. Removable Drives were in a more conventional position at the top of the box.
