Cycling Jersey Tags
A cotton hat that is a grimy, sweaty mess can easily be restored to its original condition with a good washing. To begin, take a look at the tag on the inside of the hat. That should tell you what your cotton hat is made of and the manufacturer's standard washing instructions. If your tag is missing or unreadable, you will need to figure out what your hat is actually made of. If you have a fairly new cotton hat made of cotton blend of some type or jersey knit, you can wash the hat in a clothes washer. Most current cotton hat use a plastic form to shape the brim, rather than cardboard. Plastic can withstand a clothes wash without deforming.
Colorful cotton hats... as any fashion-conscious person would attest to, being chic is all about looking neat. Nothing can prevent the occurrence of great taste more than dirt and grime on an article of clothing. This principle also extends to cotton hats. But the good news is that one of the characteristics of this particular accessory is that it is quite easy to clean.
1. The cleaning method largely depends on the age of the cotton hats that are to be washed. The reason for this is that the fibers of the fabric naturally deteriorate over time. Thus, older hats may need to be handled more delicately than newer ones. For hats that are older than a decade, the best way to clean them is by washing them by hand using a soapy solution of water and mild cleansers. For the removal of stains, it is better to spot treat it. This means that only the affected area is exposed to the substances used to get rid of the stain. The rest of the fibers are spared from the unnecessary stress of exposure to chemicals.
2. Finally, older hats should be allowed to air dry after they are cleaned. Refrain from throwing them into the machine to tumble dry because the process can leave them misshapen and deformed. While drying, hang them in a line or put them in them in a hat stand to retain their shape. Fortunately, cotton dries fairly quickly so the entire process should not take very long.
3. For newer hats such as those that are less than 10 years old, they can be thrown in the wash along with other articles of clothing. Cotton is a fairly durable material that can withstand a gentle spin through the cycle. Just ensure that it should not be washed with materials with dyes that tend to run. Cotton is also highly absorbent and will easily absorb the colors of other clothing.
4. Finally, one of the most important factors that determine the success of the washing of cotton hats is the choice of cleaners. There are many commercial products that are available in the market that are specially formulated for cotton fibers. These are good choices to make because they are usually quite effective in removing the dirt and grime. Just make sure to follow the instructions of use given by the manufacturer to avoid damaging the cotton material.
