disc brakes?
I have been ridding 90-140 miles a week off road on my gary fisher marlin with V-brakes and I am thinking about getting the "Forté Mechanical Disc Brake Set". would theses give me alot beter stoping power and what kind of adapter for the disc would I to get.
I suggest you check a couple of things...
First, look at your hubs. There must be a flange on the hubs (usually with 6 screw holes) to accept the discs. If you don't have these it means hew hubs or new wheels.
Second, check your fork and frame. There must be mounts for the disc calipers to bolt on. Most suspension forks have them but not all frames have them. That being said, most of your braking is done on the front wheel so front disc is most important anyway.
The Forte' discs really aren't too hot. Were it me, I'd keep the V brakes.
Offroad riding isn't so much about stopping power, but about control and modulation of speed. Locking up brakes going downhill doesn't do you any good since you lose the control necessary.
