Mountain Bike City
Would a geomery of my mountain city bike be impacted severely if I use 650C front wheel and fork?
The rear will stay standard 26 inch.
Of course assuming that I can find 650c fork that is similar in length to suspension forks (around 15"). The reason for doing this is 1" headtube on my old Merlin. I need new fork suspension or not and 1" road/tri/cyclocross are way more common than MTB.
Ab-so LUTE-ly. Any change of wheel diameters from factory specs tend to negatively impact a bike especially if only one is changed.
Keep in mind that when a fundamental measurement is changed it also modifies the geometry (a smaller front wheel will make the bike twitchy, larger makes it clumsy), bottom bracket height goes up or down affecting stability, and riding position is affected along with a whole slew of other stuff.
Before I get flamed by others, I am talking about changing a single wheel to something which the bike was not designed... not '69ers or the 650c/700c "tiny bikes".
Now, if your new fork length would make up the difference in some way you might be OK, but I personally wouldn't want to dump in the money only to discover the bike is unrideable.
EDIT EDIT: The RST Capa is another fork to look at... I found hundreds of forks by searching... 26" fork 1" steerer ... good luck!
