Nos Bmx

That entails a major effort of the International Olympic Committee to appeal to a younger generation by making known the competitions and the athletes who are familiar with the Summer Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing will feature BMX racing. True, BMX is now an official Olympic sport, joining the ranks of the competitions snowboard half pipe and snowboard races now as official Olympic sports. The IOC is appealing to young people in an attempt to reverse the trend of seeing Olympics as boring or only for older people.

BMX, short for bicycle motocross has been around since the 1960s and the Federation BMX International was formed in 1981. In the last decade, the sport has grown exponentially in popularity due in large part to television quiz shows like the X Games. BMX bikes are designed differently to other types of bikes, usually with very small wheels and freestyle competitions, the mechanisms that allow handlebar to turn around. In the X Games, BMX is a discipline that encompasses all races, including BMX and freestyle BMX competitions.

Included in the freestyle BMX disciples are half of the pipe (vert) competitions in which competitors ride the half pipe performs complex tricks, spins and flips on each side of the street and competitions in which incorporated a series of ramps, boxes, rails and other obstacles in a course of park and competitors can choose where and how they want to do their tricks. The goal in the competition on the street is usually to carry out the widest variety of tricks out of the widest variety of obstacles as possible. In the half-pipe competitions, factors such as getting the most air (rising high above the half pipe on jumps) and the variety of tricks are important.

The BMX IOC is taking one step at a time, however. As this is the first Olympics with BMX as an Olympic sport, the discipline of BMX only will be racing. The IOC is officially calling these BMX racing. The races will feature eight riders in a 350-meter course that includes jumps and turns bank. Given the popularity of snowboarding competitions in the Winter Olympics and in particular the trick-based competitions - the IOC is likely to continue broadening is the inclusion of BMX as an Olympic sport. If BMX as an Olympic sport can earn only a fraction of the popularity and exposure that acquired snowboarding by their inclusion in the Olympics, the sport is truly reaching new heights, as their riders continually do on a daily basis.
